Daz's Daily #19 - Worn Black Leather

Time for another Daily!

This time we're looking at worn black leather as this request has come up time and time again.

I have used

  • P3 Thamar Black

  • P3 Ironhull Grey and

  • P3 Menoth White Highlight

My main brushes are size 1 and 000 brushes from Artist Opus.

Step 1 - the highlights are stippled on over our black basecoat roughly with Ironhull Grey. I am loosely following the folds in the material however I'm using a sketchy, stabby motion with the brush.

Step 2 - Menoth White Highlight is added to Ironhull Grey to make a 50/50 mix. This is watered down 50/50 and applied very roughly with a mixture of random stipples and slashes - this will begin to build our textures.

Step 3 - the whole leather area is glazed with Thamar Black (10/1 water to paint) in two passes.

Step 4 - Highlights are added with a 75/25 mix of Menoth White Highlight and Ironhull grey. These are applied in a more usual fashion along the extreme edges of folds etc. I have added dots and slashes of this mix to break up open areas and add more textures.

Step 5 - the folds and scratches are picked out in pure Menoth White Highlight with our 000 brush.

Step 6 - the whole leather area is glazed with Thamar Black once again (10/1 water to paint) in two passes. This has tied our highlights and scuffs together to complete the worn leather effect... And we're done!
