As we hurtle full speed into the holiday season, I thought I would take some time out from playtesting secret projects, to bring you up to date on the latest information about our upcoming most bodacious Bill & Ted’s Riff in Time boardgame.
Bill & Ted’s Riff in Time is a cooperative game for 1 to 4 players, with each player taking on the role of a Wyld Stallyns band member. Something most heinous has happened to time and Personages of Historical Significance (such as Billy the Kid or Socrates) have become scattered in the wrong points of history. Throughout the game, players will be required to locate these displaced personages and return them to their correct time periods - closing any time rifts they find there. At the end of each turn, time cracks a little bit more and the biggest rift, that just happens to be in San Dimas, opens wider with dire consequences to the players.
The game board in Bill & Ted’s Riff in Time has a twisting pattern showing the Circuits of History that link together ten points in time where time have opened - these rifts are represented by discs that can rotate to different values depicting the various states of the rift.
Each player is provided with their own separate Time Booth board, used for transporting any Personages of Historical Significance they have collected during their travels.
So, what does a typical turn of Bill & Ted’s Riff in Time look like? Firstly, at the start of their turn, each player is required to draw a Rift card and follow its instructions. These cards will tell the players which period in history is currently being affected and how the time rift dial is to be rotated. After this, the player will roll a handful of dice and take their actions. They will be able to travel the Circuits of History collecting and dropping off Personages of Historical Significance as well as fixing time rifts, with the hope of fixing them all before the rift in San Dimas gets too out of control!
At its core, Bill & Ted’s Riff in Time, is a race against the clock, working against an ever-worsening crisis that’s sweeping across history and it’s up to you to put things right.
Unfortunately, it’s now time for me to go back behind the closed doors of the Warcradle Studio, but don’t worry about me - I have some more games to test, some more rules to tweak and I think somebody has brought in some mince pies to share. Until next time...
Happy Holidays,
Jim
