Upon multitudinous limbs and buzzing rotorblades, the Enlightened Heavy Regiment makes its grand entrance upon the fields of Armoured Clash. In this blog post, we’ll break down the new units and what they bring to devotees of science!
You can now order the Enlightened Heavy Regiment at your FLGS or online at Wayland Games.
The new Enlightened Heavy Regiment box adds a wide variety of powerful units to the Enlightened’s roster: a swarm of scuttling constructs; two cavalry units with very different directives to fulfil; a supremely versatile unit of automata; two new heavy rotorcraft (including the Enlightened’s much-awaited first transport!); and, the stars of the show, two stunning Peer-driven heavy walkers.
Skittering across the battlefield like a horrid, crawling nightmare come the Reclamator Canceris Constructs. These swarms of modified crabs tear apart tanks and infantry alike, collecting the parts for later dissection and study. They are not solely responsible for reclaiming your opponents’ flesh, however! These carcinoid beasties are also able to turn their pincers to repairing friendly Heavy units, ensuring that your big weapons can be Overcharged to your heart’s content! With the new Seeded Swarms Boon, Reclamators can gain the Ambushers special rule, letting them appear wherever they are most needed.
The first new cavalry unit is the Aegis Support Creepers, who bring a galvanic shield generator to the Enlightened’s forces. They greatly increase the survivability of friendly Light units and, should they devote their turn to overclocking their generators, nearby Heavy units too! When violence calls, they can redirect their enormous electrical reserves into their limbs; ready to charge in and start kicking!
The Hephaestus Strike Creepers fulfil an altogether different purpose: methodical, volcanic devastation. Armed with deadly heat-lasers, the Hephaestus are superlative tank-hunters. Should an opportunity present itself, they are also capable of reducing entire buildings to slag with their Siegebreaker attack; the resulting wreckage is perfect for your Reclamators to hide inside with Occupy.
Some of the oddest inventions within the Enlightened’s armed forces are the Undertaker Automata Servitors. These lolloping giants bounce across the battlefield on telescopic limbs, clambering through forests and ruins with ease. From ear-splitting emphatic vocalisers they command their master’s enemies to “Surrender, if you please!” Should this reasonable request be rebuffed, they swap their programming punch-cards and change tack. With whipping limbs, they tear entire squadrons apart, before shifting their programming again. Now calm and observational, the automata make their way to a key objective, holding it whilst broadcasting symphonies to assist their Peer’s focus.
Pandora Transport Rotors support Enlightened Generals with truly herculean transport capacities; a single Rotor is able to transport an entire Basic unit of Citizen-Soldiers or Heavy Construct Devastators alongside a small contingent of cavalry (Perhaps some Hephaestus Strike Creepers?). Once their payload has been dropped off, the Pandora continues supporting the advance as mobile munitions stores to improve friendly units’ Ranged Attacks.
The Selene Attack Rotors mark the first (but not the last, as you’ll see) non-Commander unit with Peer Review. These units allow you to bring that all-important Special Rule to exactly where it’s needed thanks to their supreme mobility—and it’s no slouch in a firefight either! With great Ranged Attacks against all target categories, the Selene is ready to seek and destroy anything that stands in the way of progress.
Finally, we have the two new heavy walkers, each piloted by a Peer of their own, spreading Peer Review even further across your forces. The Hyperion Heavy Battle Walker is a destructive monster built for shooting. It blasts away with a variety of incredible Ranged Attacks, utilising All-Out Attack to obliterate multiple units at once. Using its Iron Resolve special rule, you can ensure that you are always able to enact whatever Command is most valuable at any given time—whether that be Weight of Fire to re-roll blanks on an Overcharged attack, or Uncanny Reconstruction from the Faction Battlegroup to heal damage suffered from said Overcharged attack!
Then there is the Atlas Heavy Assault Walker, which exists for a single purpose: the production of crabs, specifically, Reclamator Canceris Constructs! The Atlas is a walking factory that can ensure your Reclamators always have reinforcements to fill any gaps in their ranks, thanks to its new Manufacturer special rule. It can also transport these units, ensuring they reach where you need them most. When it isn’t protecting its children, the Atlas can flatten just about anything with its exceptional melee capabilities. Whatever survives is sure to be short work for the Reclamators that are most certainly waiting in the wings!
Alongside these new units, a few Enlightened rules and battlegroups have been tweaked. Peer Review has been slightly modified to confer the Under Review status, allowing other rules to hook into it more easily. Construct has been changed in line with this new status, as has Uncanny Reconstruction in the Faction Battlegroup. The Faction Battlegroup and S.U.R.G. Auxiliary Battlegroup have seen their Rotorcraft elements expanded from 0-1 to 0-2. Finally, the Faction Battlegroup has gained the ability to Bolster an additional unit of Pandora Transport Rotors, similar to what many other Factions have seen during the recent Global Update.
The new units in the Enlightened Heavy Regiment add endless swarms, arcing shields, deadly weapons, mobile transports and a whole lot of Peer Review to Enlightened collections. Truly, with all these exciting and powerful new toys available, the only question is which magnificent invention will you build first?
