Wanted:
For the capture, Dead or Alive of the men who support those bosses of the Wild West territories
“I got two guns. One for each of ya…” – Doc Holliday
Collectively as Warhosts, one of the things we strive to do is help build and engage our amazing communities.
Due to COVID-19 - despite we all are wanting to play games - many of us are choosing not to, or are simply not allowed to. Therefore, we would like to engage our community in a different way: with a painting contest.
This painting contest theme is the unsung heroes (or meat shields) of the table, Hand Units.
These units usually receive the least amount of love in terms of painting (which is a shame). With Lost World Exodus and Dystopian Wars on the horizon, these men, women and even beasts, are the backbone of any force across the Dystopian Age, and will be more important than ever with these games releases.
The Rules
In order to enter the painting competition, you must post a picture of your hands unit on sprue or primed in the Dark Council Facebook group with the hashtag #allhandsondeck.
It is very important to use this hashtag when not only posting your primed models for entries (as it allows us to find it) but also to use it when updating your progress or posting on social media so other painters and players can see your work.
- All work must be your own. You can get help from the community and friends but you must be the one to actually do the painting and modelling.
- Multiple photos may be sent ( but we request, no more than 3).
- There is no photo editing of the actual miniatures, any photo editing will mean disqualification and removal of your ability to win any category of the contest.
- You are able to submit multiple different hand units but all units of the same type (e.g. Enlightened Menials) will count as one entry for best painted.
- Submissions after the cutoff date will not be accepted.
- Miniatures can be submitted to the Warhost Organizers at any time during the contest by tagging me (Will VonDoome) on your uploaded image in the Dark Council. Though no entries will be able to be showcased or voted for until the start of voting on 12th March 2021.
- All contest entries will be displayed anonymously to give no one person an unfair advantage over other contestants. We ask that there are no watermarks or signatures on the submitted photos. Photos will be uploaded to a gallery to ensure photo quality is as best as possible.
- When the voting starts, it will be announced in the Dark Council Facebook group and last for 3 days, ending the 15th March 2021.
- Each submission will be given a number that will have a brief description in a pinned post on the Dark Council Facebook page with links to the submission photos.
- Winners will be announced on 19th March 2021. We will contact winners in order to send out prizes.
Prizes
Intimidated by painting or worried you won’t make the cut? There are prizes for every skill level and more than just for best painted.
Prizes will go to the following:
All Hands on Deck
This is for the most hands painted during the competition. Have 4 full units of union troops or henchmen? Now is the time to get them painted! As the person who takes this prize home will be receiving a pack of K9 Gun Dogs, to help support those hands no matter where they are fighting in the Dystopian Age.
Stand your Ground
This is for the individual with the most unique and interesting constructed bases. Arctic tundra? Enlightened Lab? Watcher flight deck? The barren wastes? The limit is what you can imagine and create. All hands must be based on a similar theme. Premade bases are acceptable (especially Warcradle Scenic bases!) This category will be judged by the Warhost Committee for this contest. The person with the best-executed bases will receive a Swamp & Industrial Medium Bases Set.
Best in Show
This is for the best-painted set of hands in all of the Wild West. This will be voted on by the community in an anonymous poll (painter will not be named until winner announcement) in the Dark Council Facebook Group. For being “Top Dog” of the painting competition, this individual will receive a set of K9 Attack Dogs.
We encourage all participants to share their progress, ask questions, help one another and most importantly encourage each other to be part of this event.
There will be discussions like how to batch paint, information on basing and tips and tricks on how some people speed up their hand painting process.
We cannot wait to see what the community produces and are looking forward to the comradery from our fellow gunslingers!
