Step-by-Step Carl Fredrickson: Stylish Protection
We’re back once again with another step-by-step and following on from the last guide, Daz is continuing his Carl Fredrickson from the Showdown at Retribution Two Player Starter Set.
Every good Lawman needs to be able to take as many bullets as he shoots, and oftentimes even more than that. However, armour can be more than just a matter of life and death, it can be stylish too!
Follow along as Daz focuses on Fredrickson’s body armour and iconic coat to get him looking his best.
Chest Armour
Step 1: To start with the armour plate I base coated it with Greatcoat Grey.
Step 2: Then, I applied a wash of Thamar Black to bring out the fine details of the chestplate.
Step 3: I proceeded to sketch in the highlights using a 50/50 mix of Greatcoat Grey and Underbelly Blue.
Step 4: From here I refined the large highlights with Underbelly Blue. At this point I started on the gold parts using the same method as I used on the buckles in the previous step-by-step.
Step 5: I used a 50/50 mix of Underbelly Blue and Frostbite to apply edge highlights to the armour, reinforcing the highlights on the flat parts with this mix.
Step 6: Using pure Frostbite for the final highlight, I concentrated on the upper edges. I also base coated the scarf with Cygnar Base Blue at this point.
Step 7: I added around 50/50 Menoth White Base to Cygnar Base Blue to create a mix for the first highlight.
Step 8: To the previous mix I added a spot of Menoth White Highlight for the final highlight on the scarf.
Coat
Step 9: To start with the coat, I applied 3 thin layers of Rucksack Tan to ensure a nice solid base.
Step 10: I began shading the coat by using a thin wash of 50/50 Rucksack Tan and Purple Ink.
Step 11: Repeating the previous step this time I focused on the deep recesses.
Step 12: Next, I reclaimed the base coat and blended out the shadows using a glaze of Rucksack Tan.
Step 13: For the first highlight I used a 50/50 mix of Rucksack Tan and Menoth White Base.
Step 14: Following this I used (you guessed it) Menoth White Base for the next highlight.
Step 15: Finally, for the last highlight I used (you guessed it again!) Menoth White Highlight.
And we’re done for now!
Daz is making great progress towards finishing his Carl Fredrickson from Showdown at Retribution.
