We are pleased to introduce the latest additions to the Armoured Clash Commonwealth forces! This blog post will act as a guide to the Commonwealth Heavy Regiment Box, which presents nine new units ready to fight for the Commonwealth, the Motherland, and the Tsar.
Over the coming months, each faction in Armoured Clash will be expanded with an additional box set. These sets will bring exciting new units for you to add to your armies, bringing a whole host of new tactical approaches and playstyles for generals to take advantage of in their armies.
Commonwealth Heavy Regiment
The Commonwealth Heavy Regiment contains an interesting mix of units: two heavy-hitting Infantry units; a pair of new Field Guns and a Gun Tractor to ensure their optimum placement on the battlefield; a pair of heavy transports to protect your infantry as you move them forward; and two Artillery pieces (something the Commonwealth has been lacking until now) to fulfil that vital long-range fire-support role.
The Buran Cryo Troopers are elite soldiers of the Commonwealth Army. Equipped with a form of man-portable cryo generator to power their weapons, they are deployed for the most difficult assaults. They have a better attack than the Ryadovoy, and with the Cryo special rule, they have the ability to deny enemy units their activation for that turn. With the Occupy and Pioneers special rules, they excel in difficult and urban terrain.
The Salyut Heavy Troopers, meanwhile, are consummate ambush troops. Armed with rocket launchers, they are ideal for hiding in dense terrain, using their Hit and Run to launch a deadly barrage of rockets before darting back into cover. Whilst their rocket launchers are best at taking on heavy units, they do bring a useful anti-aerial strike to the table as well.
The Commonwealth also gains two additional Field Guns: the Krio Rocket Battery and the Molinya Flak Guns. The Krio fires indirect salvos of rockets, each with a small on-board cryo generator, meaning that there is nowhere on the battlefield a Commonwealth General can’t reach with their iconic, activation-killing attacks… The Molinya Flak Guns are the perfect unit to protect your forces from aerial attackers, but their twin-barrelled cannon can also deal with any infantry that gets too close.
To give the new field gun units extra mobility, Commonwealth Generals can now call on the Gerlach Gun Tractor. This unit gives you the ability to best position the guns pre-clash.
The Omsk Cryo Transport is a spacious, cryo-chilled armoured personnel carrier, perfect for hauling Azhdaya Berserkers and the new Buran Cryo Troopers around the battlefield. With great armour and survivability, it can safely deliver your Berserkers to where you want them, even if you don’t want to (or can’t) fit a Mamont Subterranean Cryo Transport into your force.
The companion to the Omsk is the Matryona Heavy Transport. It is a dependable, well-armoured delivery system for your troops. Cheap enough to use in most games and tough enough to last the battle, it will safely carry your troops to their objectives, or deep behind the enemy, where they can cause the most havoc. Any of the existing Commonwealth Infantry, barring the Azhdaya Berserkers, can be carried, as well as the two new units mentioned above. With these two heavy transports taking to the field, opposing Generals will have even more reasons to worry about the mobility available to the Commonwealth.
Artillery units make their debut in the Commonwealth Army with the arrival of the Minsk Rail Destroyer and the Vilnius Siege Tank. These specialist vehicles are excellent at supporting existing elements of the Commonwealth force. The Minsk Rail Destroyer mounts a railgun derived from the White Navy’s battleships in a fixed mounting. With this enormous naval cannon, the Minsk became the preeminent anti-tank sniping vehicle of the Dystopian Age, picking off enemy command vehicles with contemptuous ease. The Vilnius Siege Tank, on the other hand, is an infantry support platform much beloved by the Ryadovoy Rifle Platoons. With its superb anti-infantry firepower to support the footslogger, it can also level any buildings that may be holding up the Commonwealth advance.
The mix of units in the new Commonwealth Heavy Regiment Box gives a tremendous boost to the Commonwealth General’s firepower, but that is not all… they give options: different ways to achieve your objectives on the battlefield.
We have hugely enjoyed bringing these new units to the table, and we can’t wait to see what they can do in the wilds of the Dystopian Age battlefields.
So, Comrade, these units are now yours. Go and bring Glory to the Commonwealth.
