With the thunder of rotorblades and the roar of engines, the Union Assault Regiment box has come to Armoured Clash. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the new units coming for the Union of Federated States.
You can now order the Union Assault Regiment at your FLGS or online at Wayland Games.
The Union Assault Regiment adds dynamic new units to the Union forces: a pair of Infantry units capable of appearing almost anywhere without notice; a light and speedy Armour unit; and three Rotorcraft—which is a brand new category for the Union.
Prowling ahead of the front lines are the Frontier Rangers. Taciturn loners recruited from the wilds of the Union, their fieldcraft skills allow them to Ambush and take up position in ground unsuitable for ranked soldiers. Their close-quarters attacks have Shock, making them perfect for dealing with enemy scouts and skirmishers, while Hit & Run allows them to retreat to the shadows once the deed is done.
Their counterparts are the Minutemen Shock Troopers, an elite marine unit that descends from the sky, rocket packs ablaze. Machine carbines give them a powerful Light attack while their Melee is stronger against Heavy targets thanks to being equipped with shaped charges. They use their Aerial Assault special rule to appear anywhere on the battlefield and can make a huge impact, but canny enemies will retaliate, and they may not have the resilience to deal with it. A clever Union General will use them as a scalpel rather than a sledgehammer to prevent them from giving the opponent their relatively high VPR.
The new Armour unit is the Frontier Dustcutter. This is a fast and Light all-terrain vehicle with a heavy Gatling gun, perfect for harassing enemy units. Its high speed and Hit & Run special rule make it great for skirting the edges of the Battlefield, reaching unguarded Artillery and Support units with ease.
This is the first of the new Rotorcraft units for the Union; the UR-47 Autogyros are hovering automata drones. Fast and flying, their Vanguard special rule allows them to begin the game ahead of the Union frontline. Advanced logic-spindles and optic lenses pick up enemy movement, giving them the Stalker special rule. This makes them capable of moving Double Time and still going On Lookout. Perfect for daring enemy infantry to make a misstep.
Next up is what I’m sure will become the reliable workhorse of Union players, the Talon Rotor. Previously, we’ve seen these models as Tokens in Dystopian Wars, and now we get to see them in Armoured Clash. These flying transports have the capacity to carry troops into battle and pair particularly well with Minutemen Shock Troopers. Rapid Response, Dynamic Entry, and Jump Ramp combine to great effect. Talon Rotors can arrive from Reserve during the first turn of the game, forcing enemies within range to make Suppression tests, immediately dropping their Minutemen passengers for a devastating assault.
Last, but by no means least, we have the Spectre Gunship, a variant of the Talon Rotor with every inch of cargo space replaced with armaments. Other Great Powers might think of such overwhelming force as obscene, but for the Union, it’s just another day at the explosive office. Suitable for attacking any target, the Spectre excels at passing over a unit to unleash destruction with something that feels more like a naval broadside than a simple firing solution.
These new units in the Union Assault Regiment Box add unnerving tactics, oppressive automata, and devastating attacks to players. Union players will be having a literal blast! The trick will be to deploy these units at key targets, not to overreach and suffer a withering counterattack. Ah, what are we saying? Unleash hell!
